Newsletter #1 - May 2020

Edito

The ICCEE project funded by the H2020 has started in September 2019. ICCEE will make it easier for the food and beverage cold chain sector to accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency measures across the entire supply chain, also arising from energy audits, with a strong engagement of companies and other stakeholders. It will help to turn energy efficiency opportunities into actual investments and create a clear understanding of the economic and environmental impacts of improving energy efficiency. You can take part in its activities by visiting www.iccee.eu.

This newsletter is brought to you in English, if you wish to find information in other languages, our brochure is available in Dutch, French, Italian, German, Latvian, Romanian and Spanish.

THE PROJECT IN A FEW WORDS

ICCEE will make it easier for the food and beverage cold chain sector to accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency measures across the entire supply chain, also arising from energy audits, with a strong engagement of companies and other stakeholders, therefore:

-        Turning energy efficiency opportunities into actual investments

-        Creating a clear understanding of the economic and environmental impacts of improving energy efficiency.

Why focus on the cold chains of the sector?

Companies integrated in the cold chain usually have lack of time and knowledge to incorporate the viable measures existing in the market and could benefit from external expertise.

How? The project will provide energy efficiency measures based on the experts’ experience and the outcomes of support tools jointly with capacity building programmes (including direct trainings and an e-module accessible to all interested in the topic) supporting the companies decisions for energy saving investments. In addition, existing financing schemes for SMEs will be assessed and the optimal ones recommended to support the implementation of energy efficiency measures.

ICCEE is funded by the Horizon 2020 programme, launched in September 2019 and lasting three years. It is coordinated by the University of Brescia with 12 partners, from 9 countries, who will create impact across the entire EU.

ICCEE TARGETS

-        400 companies reached through 20 national workshops

-        32 companies trained on how to use our tool in 4 EU workshops

-        Over 60 more companies reached with our e-learning courses

THE PROJECT IN STEPS

ICCEE consists of a series of interrelated activities, which serve to develop a tailor-made tool and training courses for the increase of supply chain energy efficiency in the food and beverage sector.

Model design and monitoring > Tool development and validation > Capacity building > Sharing and exploiting results.

FOCUS ON.... THE ICCEE TOOL

The tool will help users estimate the environmental and energy efficiency performances of a specific supply chain and its actors as well as to deliver the environmental eco-profiles of the logistics activities, within the selected supply chain system. The ICCEE tool can also be used for energy flows, benchmarking and life cycle impacts. Users will benefit from:

- adding own data and sector characteristics and  benchmark results to improve their energy demand,

- find out and evaluate the cost-benefit of the energy efficiency measures across the supply chain through the holistic approach,

- prioritize energy efficiency measures uptake to improve the whole supply chain economic and energy performance and not only individual companies,

-  assess non-energy benefits (enhanced competitiveness, reduced maintenance, improved working environment and environmental performance)

- perform what-if analyses to reduce decicions' uncertainties and risks,

- know existing funding opportunities to implement energy efficiency measures.
